Why is your news significant or unique?

The third annual Salem FIlm Festival gives the media and the public an opportunity to speak with the directors, producers and actors after their films are screened and during some special panel discussions. Don't miss out on the chance to get up close and personal with the stars!

Our Opening Night Filmmakers' Party at j.james restaurant (325 High St SE), which gives you the opportunity to mingle with our visiting filmmakers, will be the soiree everyone will be talking about for months!

What problem or issue is being addressed here?

Often there is little opportunity to engage in conversations about coverage of issues in documentary films. People interested in film as an art form or as a communication tool rarely can discuss the how and why of filmmaking.

What’s the big picture?

The festival is a chance to change that perception; an opportunity to reawaken the sense that movies are special, and there are people out there with lives, ideas and new perspectives to share.

Nobody is perfect, what might go wrong?

Dan Butler, a supporting actor ( TV's Fraiser) Pearl Fryar, a recognized topiary artist are subjects of one of two of the films and want to talk with Portland media about their work.

The Opening Night Filmmakers' Party gives an opportunity to mingle with visiting filmmakers. The Salem Film Festival is a unique venue for people to share experiences, find different views of the world and learn about other cultures.

It may be the director who takes credit for a film, but the screenwriter is responsible for breathing life into characters. In film, the story is told through their dialogue.

Legendary screenwriter, and Salem Film Festival Guest of Honor, Mardik Martin (Mean Streets, Raging Bull) will discuss screenplays, films and life as a filmmaker with Gil Kofman (The Memory Thief), Stephane Gauger (Owl and the Sparrow) and Scott Nadelson (Willamette University and Oregon Book Award winning writer). Moderated by Ken Nolley (Professor of Film Studies at Willamette) on Saturday April 18th.
