Why is your news significant or unique?

Independent musicians represent the largest growing sector of the music industry. This partnership gives indie musicians the ability to promote their music in the same way as musicians on a major label. Specifically, by using Digital Music Distribution System, which is Yangaroo's patented technology that allows songs to be sent digitally and securely to a network of radio stations in North America, musicians are able to push their music out to radio stations. When DJs log into DMDS, they are able to listen to the songs and choose which ones to play on air.

What problem or issue is being addressed here?

While the music industry is changing, music promotion to the radio has remained largely the same. Promotional CDs are still being shipped to radio stations regularly, wasting the time of radio personnel who have to open each package, listen to the CD and then upload it to their system. Digital Media Distribution System (DMDS) is changing all that by allowing for radio quality songs to be sent electronically to radio stations in a secure fashion.

What’s the big picture?

The music industry will only continue to evolve with technology. However, even with social networks as a popular means of promotion, the radio is still the #1 method for getting noticed and becoming a star. With that said, the goal for the artist starting out is to get air time on the radio. DMDS makes the process of sending your songs to the radio easier, maximizing your chances of actually getting played.

Nobody is perfect, what might go wrong?

The major issue with promotions is that music gets leaked on a regular basis. The opportunity to listen to music online for free any time has hindered music sales. While DMDS is a secure system, it does not mean that a song will not be leaked by another method (i.e. someone recording it from the radio and uploading it online).

How does your news impact people?

Yangaroo's partnership with Iris Distribution and A&R Select affect those who are interested to hear more independent music on the radio. Artists affiliated with these two aggregaters are able to use DMDS to promote their music and get more air time on radio stations.
